Injury Report:

Le’Veon Bell is out for the season and DeAngelo Williams will get the start. Based on touches and offense, he is a worth a start in most formats, but the passing game is where I’m putting down my chips this weekend. The Raiders are giving up 300+ yards per game through the air and Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant and Heath Miller all should get plenty of work.

I usually don’t like trusting Eli Manning in daily fantasy, but this matchup is just too good against Tampa. With Larry Donnell out and Rueben Randle nursing a hamstring injury, I like Dwayne Harris to have some sneaky upside again this week. I’d also love to add Shane Vereen to that sneaky upside-ability, but we never know how they will use him. In this matchup I’d give him a go in daily fantasy GPPs if you’re feeling frisky.

Ladarius Green is listed as doubtful and didn’t practice all week. He won’t play. That of course helps Antonio Gates, who practiced all week, but the real boost for Gates is the absence of Keenan Allen for the season.

With Green and Allen out, we should see plenty of targets for Stevie Johnson and Malcom Floyd as well and the way Rivers spreads the ball around should give Dontrelle Inman decent upside.

The Titans released Terrance West and activated rookie David Cobb. This could hurt Antonio Andrews already limited upside, but it feels like Cobb is still a week or two away from being able to handle a big workload, even if he is the better back.

Eddie Royal and Matt Forte will not play against the Chargers on Monday night. That opens up targets for Martellus Bennett and Marquess Wilson this week. Both should see enough work to be good plays in what should be a high scoring affair.

Pierre Thomas admits he is out of shape and that he needs to learn the playbook. So that’s not so good for his fantasy prospects this week. With Carlos Hyde out, that Puts Kendall Gaskins in the forefront of the offense this week. The odds are stacked against him in this offense, but he should see the most looks.

Martavis Bryant is listed as probable after missing Wednesday’s practice with an illness. He should be fine to go in a nice matchup.

Vernon Davis will play for the Broncos and looks to have a set of plays he’s ready for. He most likely will see limited snaps, which will make him risky. But I could easily see him grabbing a touchdown with low reception and receiving numbers. I’ll be staying away, but he does have some upside.

Julio Jones faces backup cornerbacks in San Francisco this week and will torch them without much trouble. I’m not one for touting any play as a slam-dunk, but this is as close as it possibly gets. Besides Devonta Freeman, I’m really like Jacob Tamme in this matchup. Unfortunately there are so many good tight end matchups this week, that it’s tough

T.Y. Hilton did not practice all week, but will test his foot and is listed as questionable. It’s a somewhat moot point with such a tough matchup against Denver. Andre Johnson and Donte Moncrief will most likely be the starters in this matchup, but also have limited upside.

Ronnie Hillman is listed as questionable, but coach Kubiak says he’ll start. This is a good matchup for him, but he’ll most likely split touches roughly 50/50 with C.J. Anderson. You should be able to start both in redraft, but they’ll both be risky in daily fantasy matchups.

Leonard Hankerson will be out once again this week. That should help Jacob Tamme continue to see more targets in a good matchup.

Anquan Boldin is listed as doubtful and will not go against the Falcons on Sunday. That leaves Torrey Smith, Quinton Patton, Jerome Simpson and Garrett Celek (if he plays) as Blaine Gabbert’s top pass catchers. That’s the start of a horror novel.

Ryan Fitzpatrick will start after injuring his non-throwing thumb last week. He’ll wear a glove to help with snaps and keeping hold of the ball while being hunted by linemen.

Chris Thompson returns this week from his back injury and should be thrust into a big role against the Patriots, who are favored by 14 points and should have a good lead, pushing Thompson into receiving duties.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins is out once again. Bad news for Winston’s upside, but Mike Evans should still be a good play.

Sammy Watkins is listed as questionable after not practicing this week, but does say he’ll play. He’ll be a game time decision and I’d be worried about a setback if he does manage to go.

Brandon Marshall is listed as questionable, but did get a limited practice in Thursday and Friday. I’d feel decent about plugging him into your lineup as usual.

Marcus Mariota will start against the Saints in a great matchup, but will be without Kendall Wright and has done little since Week 1. Delanie Walker is the only Titan I’d feel good about this week.

Cash Lineup 1

Cash Lineup Thur/Sun

Eli isn’t going to throw for 6 TDs each week, but this Bucs pass defense is capable of it. I don’t love DeAngelo Williams matchup, but his price and team offense should get him to value city. I’ll be using Jeremy Langford plenty this week. He faces possibly the worst rub defense in the league, has a nice price and hasn’t looked bad in limited work. This lineup is WR heavy with Jones and OBJ. I love their matchups and don’t love that many value play matchups, so I think these two could lap the field. As long as Jordan Reed is healthy, he’s putting up fantasy points. Washington will need to pass in this one. Blaine Gabbert, meet any NFL defense, thank you for the fantasy points.

Cash Lineup

Cash Lineup Update:

The Titans defense is more susceptible to the run and their offense can’t score. That sets up great for Mark Ingram, especially Khiry Robinson out for the year. Roethlisberger has a great matchup and won’t have Le’Veon Bell to lean on. He will pass and Brown will get his. Langford remains a great value with his matchup and price. It’s hard to not like him. OBJ is set up for a huge game, especially with Randle nursing his hamstring. I like Tamme a lot with Leonard Hankerson out. He’s been the second target with Hank out and gets a nice matchup.

Cash Lineup Update:

The Patriots could probably not throw the ball once and beat Washington, but they won;t do that and Brady will get plenty of points, just as he’s done all season. I’ve paired him with Gronk in this one for the upside. That puts us skimping on receivers, but IStevie, Harris and Crabs make for nice upside plays, while Ingram and Freeman are upside, but safe plays.

Thursday GPP

I try to use my Thursday GPP to grab some players I feel will be more highly owned on the Sunday slates. One of those guys should be Philip Rivers. It hasn’t mattered what that matchup is, Rivers has been hitting on all cylinders this year. He’s averaging well over 300 yards per game and a home game against the Bears poses little threat to that number. I’m going to stack him with Malcolm Floyd (i.e. the only healthy pass catcher on SD). Floyd is very boom or bust normally but this week he should see an increased number of targets. His price is perfect to take a shot on his upside. At RB I want to attack a terrible SF defense and Freeman’s price actually fits in well. He is production has normalized the last few weeks so I’m expecting his ownership to be a little lower with the Gurley being more the flavor of the week these days. Hillman appears to be taking the DEN gig and running with it. He’s a starting RB at a backup RB price. Yes, please! Tavon Austin has been a huge factor since Gurley started dominating and his price hasn’t caught up yet. Beckham looks just fine and has a ton of upside, while Stefon Diggs just isn’t going to go away. He’s a stud in waiting. The same thing can be said for Barnidge. I don’t know if he’ll ever have a good season after this year but he’s a major part of the CLE offense and is good for 3+ receptions and a TD each week. The Jags are a high upside, inexpensive, under the radar defense against a banged up Jets squad.

Sunday 50/50

Let this be your weekly reminder that we want to be safe, safe, safe in cash games. You’re not trying to win; you’re trying to beat half the field. In my mind there’s nothing safer than going Brady and Gronk. They are going to cost you, but the two of them give you such a solid base to build from that you just need the rest of your lineup to hit value in order for you to cash. I love this matchup against Washington. I know it has little bearing on this season, but the last time the Pats were in full on Eff You mode (the perfect season) they obliterated the Skins, even passing while up 40 or so late in the 4th quarter for a TD. This team feels a lot like that one. My RB are a little weak in name value and history but they should both get the bulk of the carries for their teams and face very weak rushing defenses.   With Keenan Allen, Antonio Gates, and Ladarius Green all banged up I expect Floyd to get a bulk of the targets for SD. The same can be said for Decker with Marshall a little dinged up. Decker has been very consistent all year; great for cash games. Antonio Brown with Ben back is about as good as it gets at WR. The price is still down so get him now while you can. I never put a TE in my FLEX but Watson has been so reliable for Brees the last three weeks and his price is outstanding. The Rams are the top defense for the week and I don’t like to mess around with defense in cash games.

Sunday GPP

Sometimes in a GPP you want to go safe and play for the min-cash. Other times you want to go big and try to take down the tournament. A Winston/Evans stack is the type of play that’ll either go boom or bust. The Giants defense is terrible and it’s worth taking a shot with the strong-armed rookie. He’s been looking much improved recently and Evans is ready for that post hype breakout week. I’m going to stick with the same RB duo on Sunday that I have on Thursday because RB is weak and I want a couple of guys I can trust. Brown/Cooper are top targets facing suspect passing defenses. Even in their wins Oakland has been giving up big passing plays. DMC is getting all the carries for Dallas and while the matchup is tough the price says he won’t need a lot of production to be a good value. Vernon Davis was just traded to Denver this week and I’m going to assume they didn’t make the trade to sit him out. Even if he only has 3 catches and a TD he’ll be worth your time. The Pats can give up big chunks of yardage but they also sack the QB and get after the football. WSH is not a good offense and the Patriots should thrive this week.

Sunday GPP UPDATE

There are a number of interesting QB/WR stacks this week and one of the most interesting is Carr/Cooper. Because of the number of stacks you can make I can see this being a very low owned stack with tremendous upside. Cooper has a phenomenal matchup and should be able to put up a big stat line. The only issue is the Raiders history of struggling when they come East for an early game, but this a different Raiders team than we’ve seen in the past. Freeman is about as safe as it gets at RB and I want to make sure to get a solid score with one of my RB spots. The other RB spot is going to go to Andrews with a decent matchup and a promise of a big workload. This spot was almost given to Jeremy Langford, but I’d rather have Andrews/Bryant over Langford/Tavon Austin. OBJ has quite possibly the best matchup at WR this week and he’s been playing great. Malcolm Floyd should get a ton of targets with Keenan Allen out and Ladarius Green banged up. Rivers is going to throw and he’s got a great history with Floyd. Jordan Reed can be a garbage time hero against the Patriots and the Falcons are pretty safe going up against a dysfunctional 49ers offense and Blaine Gabbert.

Thursday GPP

I usually dislike playing Thursday players, but there are two that stand out for me this week. The first is the Cincy defense. They get to play at home on a short week against a Cleveland team with Johnny Manziel at the helm, who has fumbled 4 times (losing 2) in limited playing time this season. It’s not just his fault, it’s a problem with the Cleveland offensive line, as is evident when you realize that Manziel’s teammate has fumbled nine times, losing six. Strictly speaking, the Cincy D is going to feast. I’d be shocked if they get fewer than two turnovers.

The other player from this game that I love is Jeremy Hill, who has begun to see more touches after a few weeks of mediocre usage. He gets to face a Cleveland team who is giving up 147 rushing yards per game, 13.2 yards more than the next closest team, Detroit. He has a very solid chance at crossing the 100 yard barrier and, more importantly, hitting paydirt.

Sunday 50/50

It’s odd that I’d be using a player coming back from injury and a rookie fill-in RB in my cash lineup, but I feel comfortable about these particular picks. The first of these three oddities is Tyrod Taylor, who comes back for the Bills after a couple of weeks away. While the matchup isn’t as juicy as it was when he dominated the Dolphins in Week 3, Buffalo his floor is high; he hasn’t scored less than 17.2 FP in any game this season — nearly 3X his current salary – which is exactly the type of floor I want from my QB. At the other QB spot is Big Ben, who gets to face off against the 2nd worst passing defense in the league this year, giving up over 300 yards per game.

Jeremy Langford fills in this week for Matt Forte as he heals from what is likely an MCL sprain. The Bears believe in their young back and will giving him a lot of touches this week against a pathetic San Diego rushing defense. I’m rolling with Gates in all three sample lineups. He’s especially important in the cash lineup as he’ll clearly be the #1 receiving option in San Diego now that Keenan Allen is done for the year. Ingram has an excellent matchup against Tennessee and may even be seeing increased touches in New Orleans now that Khiry Robinson is done for the season. Atlanta’s defense gets to tee off on Blaine Gabbert this week. Heloooooo DST.

Sunday GPP

The game I’m targeting this week is the San Diego/Chicago Monday night game. While it’s hard to wait until Monday to see a large portion of your roster play, it’s sometimes fun to watch your team climb up the ladder and pass a lot of other players who’ve thought they’ve already won. I’m doubling up on QB with Rivers and Cutler, who both have a solid chance to pass for 300+ yards and multiple TDs (Rivers has failed to throw for multiple TDs just once).

Stevie Johnson is a bit risky, but should see a big increase in targets with Allen out. I’ve rostered Blount again…this is all about game flow. New England should be blowing out Washington by the 2nd quarter. If you own Lewis, hope that he gets his numbers in the first half, because Blount is going to be getting a ton of touches in the 2nd half.

Sunday GPP UPDATE

There are two games I love targeting this week. The first is the Monday night affair between San Diego and Chicago. I love pieces on both sides, especially Jeremy Langford, Alshon Jeffery, Antonio Gates and Malcom Floyd. In fact, this lineup uses all four. It’s tough to wait for Monday to see so many of your pieces score points for you, but this is one week where you’ll have to be patient. I love the Big Ben/Antonio Brown stack this week against an Oakland team giving up more than 300 yards through the air per game. Derek Carr has an excellent matchup as well, although I’m avoiding him in this lineup. I’ve also rostered DeAngelo Williams here, even though Oakland has been good against RBs. I think Pitt gets a lead going here and pounds the rock with DW. He has an excellent chance at finding the end zone this week. I actually wanted to roster Denver’s DST, but the way I was arranging the other pieces didn’t allow for that. Instead, I’m rolling with Atlanta against Gabbert and the rest of the 49ers.

Odds

A very simple, but good start to DFS research is to look at the over/unders and odds. Obviously you want your players in games where Vegas believes the game will be high scoring and on winning teams, while your defenses should come from games they believe will be low scoring.
