Week 3 Consensus Rankings September 17, 2013  |  Jeff

Welcome, Fake Footballers, to yet another exciting week of fantasy football. Whether you are 2-0 or 0-2, week 16 title games are still a very long way off, so let’s buckle down and grab another “W” in week three. The first two weeks of fantasy action have sorted out some things, as players have sucked, sucked and then kicked some tail, or just had two straight weeks of tail kicking (which is what we like). We are slowly gathering more detailed statistical matchup information as well, which is the fuel to our weekly rankings fire. As always, leave those lineup questions in the comments below, or simply ask Chet or myself for further explanation on our rankings. Enjoy!

10 person standard league do i atart joique bell over stevan ridley if r.bush is out this weeK

  2. Shane says:

Hey my knowledge is strong at running back but I don’t know who to start for WR1 WR2 and Flex. I could really use a top 3 from this list for week 3.
    Julian Edelemen
    Chris Givens
    Eddie Royal
    Greg Jennings
    Cecil Shorts
    Thanks alot!

    • Jeff says:

I like the top three you have on the list. I dont trust Cecil against Seattle’s secondary and Jennings hasn’t been good yet this year with Ponder at QB

  3. B-Real says:

Given the Rice and R. Bush injuries….Who do you like in the flex this week? J. Bell or B. Pierce?

  4. Corey says:

Need to figure out a third receiver to go with Calvin and Jordy.

Should I go with Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron, or Torrey Smith? (I also have Randle, but he’s my last option)

I’m leaning rolling the dice on Gordon since it is early in the season, though I’m streaming the Vikings Defense.

Also, I have too many Browns.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

    • Jeff says:

haha the too many Browns problem has infected a couple of my teams as well. I would play Smith at your WR3 slot and give Gordon a week to see what Hoyer looks like in the pocket.

  5. MrG says:

Who would you rather roster at this point…given the CLE situation – Josh Gordon or Michael Floyd (PPR)

  6. Robert says:

Have Russell Wilson as my QB, Palmer as back up, could grab Alex Smith off waivers. I can see everyone has Wilson rated higher, but I’m not sure I get it – both of those two have outscored Wilson so far this year, and SEA should crush JAX. Wilson probably only needs to hand the ball to Lynch/Micheal/Turbin all day, whereas I’d guess Palmer gets in to a shootout in New Orleans, Alex Smith may have the same issue in Philly. Thoughts?

Also have to choose between Gore and Joique Bell in flex. Who do you think has the highest upside given that I’m playing the Peyton owner?

    • Robert says:

ooops – forgot to mention, it is a ppr league.

Also, have Nicks, Wallace and Fitz. Fitz nearly killed me last week. Go Wallace and Nicks for safety or upside with Fitz, benching Wallace?

      • Jeff says:

I would still roll with Wilson. He is better than his stats indicate and he will put up some good numbers as Seattle jumps out on Jax. I’d keep Palmer as your backup.

At flex, I would go Gore unless Bush sits out. If Bush sits, play Bell.

At WR, wait until this weekend and see what news comes out regarding Fitz’ health. Nick/Wallace for now but if Fitz sounds healthy I would swap him in there.

  7. Phil says:

I forgot to mention I’m also starting Witten at TE.

  8. Phil says:

Hey Jeff, 12 team standard – Who to start in these spots:
    QB – RGIII or Rivers?
    RB 2 – Bradshaw or F. Jackson? (D. Martin = RB1)
    Flex – Boldin or Wayne?

    1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 Flex, K, D/ST
Starters right now are RGIII, Martin, Jackson, D. Thomas, J. Jones, Wayne, Hartley, Min.
No other RBs on the bench but Jacquizz, B. Brown and D. Woodhead are the best pickups on waivers right now. Should I pick up Jacquizz since he’s starting this week and Bradshaw and Jackson are spliting touches? His YPC scare me.
Too many tough calls this week so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

    • Jeff says:

QB I’d go RG3 and WR I’d go Wayne despite the matchup.

Rb is tough here. I think Jacquizz may be the best route with the matchup/uncertainty for Bradshaw.

  9. Alonzo says:

    Hi Jeff! 2 questions:

Pick 2 of 3 this week (standard league): Daryl Richardson, Julian Edelman, Marques Colston.

And who would you rather have for the rest of the season, Mike Williams or James Jones?

  10. David says:

    Hey Jeff-

    My team is currently:
    Matthew Stafford
    Doug Martin
    Lamar Miller
    Marques Colston
    Eric Decker
    Jimmy Graham
    Vikings D
    Steven Heuschka

Bench: Andy Dalton, Daryl Richardson, Bernard Pierce, Cecil Shorts, Golden Tate, Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron.

Trying to decide between Pierce, D Rich, and Cameron for flex- any advice? Thanks.

    • Jeff says:

Keep a close eye on Ray Rice’s status this weekend. If he is out, Pierce is the play for sure there. If he plays I probably go with D Rich for now with the uncertainty surrounding Hoyer and the Browns.

  11. Tom says:

10 team half PPR: My Dilemma is my flex & 2nd RB where I’m hurting bc of David Wilson , SJack & Amendola: here’s whats Left. At the moment I’m going with Starks as RB2 & Josh Gordon as Flex.. thoughts?

    RBs WRs
    Starks, Josh Gordon
    B. Tate Andre Roberts

  12. JP says:

Will you guys be reranking the Browns defense after the trade or do you think there is not much impact? They’re top 10 currently in your rank and had grabbed and now I’m having second thoughts.

    • Jeff says:

I don’t think it changes them much but probably doesn’t help. Ive got them outside my top 12 personally and Im not too excited about them being dealt short fields by Hoyer turnovers.

  13. SOA says:

    14 Team Standard:
    Mathews, Lacey, TRich, and Helu
Demaryius, Gordon, James Jones, Michael Floyd, Nuk
    Fleener, Cook

After losing Vereen, my RB situation has me a little worried(although that may just be the RB hoarder in me talking). I was thinking of trying to trade James Jones for Demarco Murray, but I feel like it would leave some uncertainty at WR. Thoughts? Thanks!

  14. emcee period says:

Eddie Royal didn’t make your top 50 WR’s? Explanation? Just dropped a third of my FAAB on him in a couple PPR leagues…

  15. nate says:

    my current starters

    qb: ben/pryor
    rb: mccoy
    flex: lamar miller
    wr: bmarsh
    wr: a brown
    te: witten

other owner possibly thinking of trading me eli/joique/dez/cook for lamar/witten/a.brown. Should i do it? Reservations are starting joique at the flex when is not a starter in real life (and league is not ppr) and cook being a week 1 wonder

    • Jeff says:

yikes, this is tough. Obviously you like the idea of getting Dez, but the rest is close. I think I would lean towards doing it just slightly in order to get Dez but your TE and Flex spots will suffer slightly. Having Eli to play matchups with will help too. Its risky due to thinning out your team pretty bad but I think its pretty close. Maybe try to squeeze him for an upgrade to Bell in the deal and then pull the trigger.

  16. Kevin says:

Hi Jeff. I’m in a 10 team league. TDs and Yardage scoring. Would you make this trade? I give up Knowshon Moreno and Michael Floyd and I get Ryan Mathews and Josh Gordon. I can substitute Giovani Bernard for Ryan Mathews. Thanks.

    • Jeff says:

I would do it and I would swap in Gio as long as you have some other RB depth. Gio will be splitting like he is currently for a while longer but I could easily see him taking over the bulk from BGE later on in the year. Let me put it his way: Bernard’s carries will only increase (BGE is crusty) and Moreno’s could only decrease (he is a bit crusty himself and Ball isn’t going away). As long as you have some other RB to start at the moment, I like it.

      • Kevin says:

Hi Jeff. I’m in a 10 team league. TDs and Yardage scoring. Would you make this trade? I give up Knowshon Moreno and Michael Floyd and I get Ryan Mathews and Josh Gordon. I can substitute Giovani Bernard for Ryan Mathews. Thanks.

I have Chris Johnson, MJD, Ben Tate, Le’Veon Bell and Lamar Miller…?

  17. Norman says:

Just dropped Rothlisberger for Rivers? What kind of trade do you think I could get out of Antonio Brown or do I keep him for now?

    • Jeff says:

Probably not worth dealing Brown low right now. Not many options for Ben, so I’d imagine he will be better. Give him a little more time.

  18. Anthony K says:

Hey Jeff: Would you complete this trade in a 12 team 1 pt ppr league? Why? Thank you
    In advanced

I get- Ray Rice and B Hartline
    I give- Reggie Bush

    My team (2-0)

    QB- newton, Pryor
    RB- forte
    RB- Reggie Bush
    WR- R. Cobb
    WR- H. Nicks
    TE- J Cameron/ Finley
    Flex- C Shorts/ R white
    Def- Stream
    K- J brown

    Bench- B Tate, B Brown, I pead, D brown

    • Jeff says:

I wouldn’t touch that deal at the moment. You should probably wait until we get more definitive news about Rice’s hip injury and a better understanding about Bush’s knee. I would guess that Rice’s injury has more potential to be serious so wait until you get more info on that.

  19. Norman says:

Hi Jeff, I ended up getting Starks off of waivers. Would you start him over Randle as my #2 flex, my other flex is Torrey Smith. 12 Team PPR: My Team: R Wilson, Rothlisberger, Antonio Brown, AJ Green, Randle, Patterson, Torrey, Spiller, R Bush, Starks, Helu, Pierce, Olsen, Eifert, Walsh, NE D. I think I have to start Pierce as my #2 rb & Torrey as my #1 flex. Even though they’re on the same team, I don’t think I have another option. Also, would you rather have Rothlisberger or Rivers as my back up?

    • Jeff says:

I would start Starks at flex this week and I would rather have Rivers. Ben and the Steelers just look terrible and Im not sure if he’s gonna get it going behind that O-Line.
