Sunday Updates:

Andre Ellington will not play. Fire David Johnson up as a great DFS play today.

UPDATE: Chris Mortenson says that Ware will most likely not play, even if he’s active. I feel a bit better with West in DFS now.

Spencer Ware will try to go. This dampens West’s upside unfortunately. He should be the lead back, but the Ravens run defense is not too shabby. He was a better play when we knew he’s see 100%.

Alshon Jeffery, C.J. Anderson, Davante Adams and Karlos Williams will all play today.

Injury Report:

T.J. Yeldon is listed as doubtful, which gives Denard “Shoelace” Robinson the start. Shoelace’s six games of 14 or more carries over the last two seasons have resulted in an average of 96 total yards and a total of five touchdowns. This matchup isn’t prohibitive, with the Falcons giving up an average of 134 yards and 1.3 touchdowns on the ground to running backs over the last four games.

Spencer Ware practiced on Friday and is listed as questionable. If he goes, the hopes and dreams of many a Charcandrick West backer could be dashed on the cold streets of Baltimore. I’d still expect West to lead the way, and be worth a flex start, but I’d be a little worried about his DFS upside.

Julian Edelman is doubtful to play against the Titans, so Danny Amendola will again be a nice fantasy play. He’s especially safe at DraftKings, with their one-point PPR scoring.

The Seahawks backfield is a mess right now, with Marshawn Lynch and Thomas Rawls out. Bryce Brown and Christine Michael are set to share carries and if a hot-hand situation develops, one of them could have a monster game. I’m going to put my money on Bryce Brown, but not very much of it.

Matt Schaub is listed as probable and should be able to go. He’s a little looser with the ball than Jimmy Clausen, who is probably more scared of throwing a pick-six, than if he can win the game. Schaub has no such qualms. Fire up the KC defense.

Tyler Eifert is out with a brain injury. That will give the Bengals even more reason to run the ball and play defense, instead of pushing A.J. McCarron to pass, which should work against the 49ers, who have allowed 202 rushing and receiving yards for 1.75 touchdowns to running backs over the last four games. Jeremy Hill should be able to take advantage as long as they can keep a lead on the Blaine Gabbert led 49ers.

Andre Ellington is practicing, but this appears to be David Johnson’s job until further notice. Ellington will be a game time decision Sunday night and would most likely be limited with his toe injury anyway. Johnson gets a great matchup with the Eagles crumbling defense and by crumbling, I mean they’ve allowed 217.8 yards and 1.25 TDs per game to running backs over the last four weeks.

Amari Cooper was able to get a limited practice in on Thursday and should be able to go against the Packers on Sunday. He may not be 100 percent and he hasn’t been playing well, so our expectations need to be lowered. But, there is some good news for Cooper’s upside though, as Packers best defensive back, Sam Shields, will be out with a brain injury. Only in fantasy football would you see “good news” anywhere near “brain injury,” but there it is.

Charles Clay didn’t practice this week and as expected, won’t play. That will mean more targets for Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods and LeSean McCoy. Add in Karlos Williams being “iffy” according to Rex Ryan, and I think McCoy benefits from the offensive injuries this week. It’s a tough matchup, but he should be able to put together enough all-purpose yards to be worthwhile.

Calvin Johnson returned to practice for the Lions on Friday. He may not be fully healthy, but will play and has a great matchup against Pro Football Focus’ worst graded cornerback Brandon Browner.

Vance McDonald returns from his concussion this week and gets a nice matchup against the Bengals, who have allowed the most receptions to tight ends this season.

C.J. Anderson is questionable, but looks like he’ll be able to go. He gets more receiving work than Ronnie Hillman, which they’ll need against the Steeler stout run defense. I’d play him as a flex if he goes.

Matt Hasselbeck will start against the Texans. He has been dreadful the last two weeks, allowing opposing D/STs, Pittsburgh and Jacksonville, to score 20 and 22 points respectively. The Texans are a better group than both of those defenses. Start them.

The Vikings will be without Harrison Smith and Anthony Barr and could also miss Linval Joseph and Everson Griffen, who are questionable. That sets up well for Jay Cutler, who has some upside this week, as long as Alshon Jeffery and Zach Miller can go, which all signs point to.

Cowboys’ linebacker Rolando McClain is out, which should help Chris Ivory. Ivory should be able to see plenty of work in a game where Matt Cassel will have trouble putting up any kind of offensive success.

Dontrelle Inman will return from his scary neck injury, to a nice matchup against the Dolphins, while Stevie Johnson remains sidelined. Where he’s cheap in DFS, I’m willing to use him as a punt play to get higher priced studs.

Thursday GPP

Sunday Cash/GPP

Sunday GPP/Cash: I love Arizona this week and have a stack of Palmer, Johnson and Floyd. I usually don’t add RBs to my QB/WR stacks, but Johnson is like a wide receiver and I think there will be plenty of points to go around. Peterson is a safe play this week against Chicago at home, but has more upside than most of the RBs going. Julio Jones has dropped enough in price and in trust of the general public, to be worth a GPP play in a great matchup. Miller is the red zone go to for Cutler right now and he is cheap. I’m doubling down on Prater after he absolutely killed me last week. The Saints won’t stop the Lions enough to keep him out of FG range like the Rams did last week. The Texans are my go to defense this week with Hasselbeck hurt and Charlie Whitehurst next up.

Sun GPP

Sun GPP/Cash

Sunday GPP/Cash: I like this team for both cash and GPP.  Stafford might be scary under normal circumstances, but in New Orleans against the worst defense in the league is too good to pass on. Drew Brees is amazing at home and he’ll be able to put up points, which will keep Stafford and company throwing. The Saints average points allowed at home is over 31! I’d pair him with either Tate and Megatron, but here I think I’ll go with the upside of Megatron against the worst corner in the league, Brandon Browner. Denard Robinson is my favorite play all over the board and he’ll be highly owned, which is probably the same with David Johnson. I love both plays and they allow me to go heavy on Julio and Megatron, both of who, I like as possible top scorers this week. Michael Floyd has led the Cards in targets when healthy and gets the best matchup going right now against the Eagles.  The Panthers will be without Jon Stewart, which should help funnel targets to Olsen against one of the worst TE defenses. I think Denver can hold down the Steelers, but I think the Steelers move the ball enough for Boswell to get his attempts and with Brock Osweiler at the helm, I don’t see the Broncos scoring enough to keep Boz off the field.

Sunday Cash

Sunday Cash

Sunday Cash: I can’t get away from Palmer in a cash and Floyd is my favorite Cards receiver, while also being the cheapest one. I like that too much not to go all in there. Lamar Miller is scary due to usage, but we’ve seen what he does with limited touces and he has a great matchup this week. Denard, Nuk, Maclin and Olsen are solid plays and the Texans are just too well priced in a great matchup to fade for me.

1pm Only Cash

1pm Only Cash/GPP

1pm Cash/GPP: Going value at QB/RB with Bortles/DRob/Bolden to get my favorite WR plays with Maclin/Nuke/Julio. I like the Jags to put up a lot of points on Atlanta, which is why I’m stacking them throughout.

Palmer is the safest QB going and I’ll bypass trying to predict who gets the TDs for him by skipping the AZ WRs. Houston’s D is way too cheap on DraftDay, so I have to go with them.

THURSDAY GPP

Carson Palmer is going to want to put on a show Sunday night. He’s got four great targets to choose from and he should have a field day against a Philly defense with a lot of holes. I want to punt one RB position and few guys have the upside of Bilal Powell at his price range (Chris Polk was in consideration here as well). He doesn’t get a ton of carries but Ryan Fitzpatrick has used him a ton in the passing game and his floor is pretty high considering how inexpensive he is. My other RB is going to be Jeremy Hill as I think Cincy is going to just jam the ball down SF’s throat all game. My WR are all full of upside and have great matchups. Ginn is so boom or bust but the Giants passing D is so bad that he’s worth the gamble at his price range. I should get enough production about of Palmer/Tate/Julio/Gronk to make up for a sub-optimal game from Ginn. Gronk is the best TE on the board and his price might scare some people away. Not me, I want all the Gronky goodness this week. A hot KC D against Jimmy Clausen? Yes, please!

SUNDAY CASH

There is no play I want more in a cash game than Cam Newton (Russell Wilson comes close). He is just so consistently good right now that I find it impossible to click on anyone else in a cash game. Eddie Lacy, David Johnson, and Shady should each get 15 touches in plus matchups. Baldwin, Maclin, and Tate are target machines and all have a very high floor. Each can be counted on for a line of 5-60 with upside. Denver has a great defense but Ben is going to throw anyway and when he sees his guys blanketed on the outside he’s going to dumb down a lot to Heath Miller. Miller has hit 10 receptions twice already this year and he could see double digit targets again this week. In a cash game I like to play the best defense regardless of what it will cost me. The last thing you want in a cash game is to lose because you got cute with your defense. Seattle is the safest team on the board today (KC and Cincy were in consideration here as well.)

SUNDAY GPP

The Baltimore Ravens can’t stop any QB and that won’t change this week. Alex Smith brings some extra upside with his ability to scramble. Don’t discount the benefit of those extra 3-4 points he gives you with his legs. I’m going to pair Smith with Maclin and hope for a game similar to what Wilson/Baldwin did last week to Baltimore. David Johnson and Lamar Miller both face bottom 10 defenses and have usage concerns. I’m not too worried about usage as long as both can do what they did last week in their limited time. Tyler Lockett has too much upside to pass on at his price point, especially against the Cleveland defense. My other two WR are stud players that should both see a low ownership; Demaryius because of his recent issues with drops and OBJ because of his matchup against Josh Norman. Julius Thomas has scored in each of his last four games and a matchup with a weak ATL D won’t dissuade me from plugging him in and hoping for a fifth straight game with a TD. The Jags defense goes up against a Falcons team in a downward spiral. They get at the QB and that forces a lot of sacks and turnovers.

SUNDAY GPP 2 (UPDATE)

Every once in a while that chalk plays make the best GPP plays. The goal is to get this highest score, right? And in theory the chalk should get you the highest score, right? So why not power up a GPP with some of the chalkiest chalk you can find? Wilson/Baldwin is the single hottest combo in fantasy and they have an amazing matchup. The Seahawks D is another play that’s so obvious but sometimes the obvious play is right play. Hill and Johnson are low priced and have excellent matchups. Hill is especially useful in a GPP because the uncertainty surrounding his usage should keep his ownership down. SF gives up a ton of red zone TD and that’s where Hill specializes. AP is my other RB because he’s AP and you can never really go too wrong with AP. Maclin should have a huge week and is another chalky play that might just be the right guy in a GPP. John Brown is not my favorite Cardinals WR, Michael Floyd. Floyd is also cheaper and more popular so that kind of rules him out since I need some plays that aren’t going to be the highest owned at their position. Brown is very boom or bust but against Philly there’s a good chance he goes boom. Rounding out my squad is another chalky play with Julius Thomas and his four game TD streak. His price is still really cheap and he’s the best play for the cap space I had available.

FantasyAces Lineup Configurations

Thursday GPP

At this point, I’m stacking Russell Wilson with Baldwin until I see a reason not to. They have been the most dynamic QB/WR duo in the league for the past few weeks, something that should not change this week against the woeful Browns. I’m adding Lockett to this stack, too. With apologies to my Chiefs, the Hawks look like the hottest team in the league right now. I’d be scared to face them in the playoffs. News hit this week that Bryce Brown will likely be starting for the Hawks. While I don’t love the play, the upside is obviously big in that offense. Hey, you gotta go big in tourneys; the guy only costs $3K at FantasyAces. The other QB I’m rolling with here is Matt Stafford in a dream matchup against the Saints. New Orleans held the rookie Winston in check last week, but Stafford should be piling up yards all day long. While I didn’t stack him with a WR here, both Megatron and Tate are solid options this week.

Todd Gurley is the only Thursday player I’m touching. He should be getting his usual heavy workload in a winnable game against the Bucs. While I don’t have any listed here, you can always roll with Jets staples Brandon Marshall, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Eric Decker. Ivory is in a good position this week, too, against a weak Dallas run defense. Julio Jones is my favorite high end WR play this week, even though Atlanta is in a tail spin. Denard Robinson should get the start for Jacksonville and has a great matchup on the other side of the field. His teammate Julius Thomas (Portland State, represent!) has been very steady and has a solid matchup as well. KC D gets to tee off against either Clausen or Schaub. Yes, please.

Sunday 50/50

I’m all aboard the QB faces Baltimore train this week. The QB with the matchup this week is Mr. Check Down himself, Alex Smith. He doesn’t make mistakes. His INT last week make it only 4 on the season, the lowest of any regular starter this season. Baltimore’s passing defense is awful. I’m expecting big games from both him and Maclin, who I’ve included in both the cash and GPP lineups. FantasyAces is all about passing yardage, which makes Stafford a near must this week for me against New Orleans. In fact, you could heavily stack that one game and maybe win a tournament. We may not see NO/NYG levels, but there will be fireworks. I’ve paired Stafford with Golden Tate, who has at least 7 catches in each of the past four weeks and is averaging 8 catches per game in that time frame.

A few weeks ago I wouldn’t have had Lacy and an RB facing the Eagles’ D in a cash games, but times quickly change in the NFL. Philly is giving up over 200 total yards to RBs over the past 4 weeks and Lacy — when he’s not missing curfew — is a big focus of the GB offense and has played well….finally. Michael Floyd has been one of the most dynamic receivers in the league over the past several weeks, something that should continue against the Eagles. I love the Steelers against Brock Osweiller and the Broncos.

Sunday GPP

Drew Brees is EXPENSIVE here. You can easily slot in Wilson for cheaper, but I wanted to show a different look. I’ve rostered Brees, who is a monster fantasy asset at home. He is going to go off for an easy 300+ yards and, likely, multiple TDs. Palmer is also a very viable option against Philly here at a bit cheaper price point. I’ve paired him with fellow Saints Tim Hightower and Ben Watson who, let’s be honest, were not on many peoples’ radars at the beginning of the season, especially Hightower. Denard Robinson will be highly owned, but has an excellent matchup against the Atlanta run defense. He’s a bit risky, but this is a tournament lineup after all. Risk is what wins. Again, Julio is my favorite high end WR play this week and Sammy Watkins has a chance to go off again against Washington’s pass D.

Sunday GPP 2

A lot of familiar names here. This lineup is specifically focusing heavily on the Sunday and Monday night games, which should both be shootouts. Palmer and Stafford should each easily pass for 300+ yards. Rock and roll!

Odds

A very simple, but good start to DFS research is to look at the over/unders and odds. Obviously you want your players in games where Vegas believes the game will be high scoring and on winning teams, while your defenses should come from games they believe will be low scoring.
