Sunday Injury Updates:

Danny Amendola is expected to play according to Rapsheet.

Heath Miller appears unlikely to play still. Jesse James and Markus Wheaton get bumps.

Tyler Eifert is still not expected to play. Bump up A.J. Green and co.

Injury News:

Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington are out, giving David Johnson the start and the bulk of the running back touches this week. Johnson’s best skill set is through the air and he had a receiving touchdown against the Rams in their first meeting, while Carson Palmer targeted him and Chris Johnson 12 times in that game. I expect a nice receiving game from him, which makes him a must play on DraftKings and their one point ppr scoring.

Darrelle Revis will remain out due to his brain injury and even his backup, Marcus Williams will miss this game. Eli Manning gets a bump and Odell Beckham Jr. might be worth a start I guess.

Charcandrick West will return after getting a full week of practice in, but he won’t return as the lone starter, as Spencer Ware has looked too good to move back to the bench. West will be the “starter” and receiving back, while Ware will most likely be the between the tackles and goal line back. Both have some upside here and are startable in redraft leagues, but expectations need to be lowered.

Devonta Freeman practiced fully on Thursday and Friday and should regain his every down running back status after missing time due to a brain injury, especially after Tevin Coleman had trouble holding onto the ball. Tampa Bay will also be without Gerald McCoy and Jacquies Smith this week, which is a big upgrade for Matt Ryan and Freeman, as McCoy and Smith rank one and two in sacks for the Bucs. This was already a good matchup for the underachieving Ryan, so I’m willing to give him another go this week in daily and redraft leagues.

Marquess Wilson is out after yet another Bears injury during practice, but Alshon Jeffery wasn’t even on the injury report this week after practicing in full. Eddie Royal is listed as questionable after not practicing all week, so it looks like Jeffery will be heavily targeted in a good matchup. His price on daily sites, coupled with his matchup and ability, make him my No. 1 DFS play this week.

Martellus Bennett isn’t happy with his playing time and since Zach Miller hasn’t been horrible, I don’t know if this squeaky wheel get’s greased. It might and probably should as the Bears have very few other targets and Miller popped up late on the injury report himself with a rib injury. So I may have just talked myself into Bennett, but he is not beloved by the coaching staff right now and carries some risk.

The Vikings are worse against the run than the pass this year and they just got even worse with nose tackle Linval Joseph out for the game. That should help Thomas Rawls, who is already set up for a good game.

Willie Snead is out, which put sMarques Colston in line for a goodly amount of targets. He’s decrepit, but could be useful in some spots and Josh Norman will be all over Brandin Cooks, while Charles Tillman is out.

Garrett Celek is out with a high ankle sprain, which solidifies Vance McDonald as the 49ers No. 1 tight end. That should push McDonald, who already has been playing well with Blaine Gabbert under center, into a must-stream tight end against the Bears.

Tyler Eifert is doubtful with a pinched nerve, which should help funnel targets to A.J. Green in a nice matchup. The only concern is game flow disrupted by an utter blowout with a defensive touchdown or two, but I’ll take my chances with Green this week.

The Browns will start Austin Davis with Josh McCown out. Davis is a third stringer for a reason or three, so feel decent about a Bengals D/ST start this week.

Allen Hurns will miss this game with a concussion, which most likely just helps Allen Robinson and Julius Thomas, while a bevy of lesser receivers take over for Hurns.

Karlos Williams is out, which keeps LeSean McCoy’s floor pretty high even in a tough matchup. McCoy is guaranteed 20 plus touches this week and he’s been playing very well, even against strong rush defenses.

Rishard Matthews cracked his ribs last week and Kenny Stills tweaked his ankle in practice, so DeVante Parker is in line for the majority of snaps and should see plenty of targets against the Ravens, who are much worse against the pass than the run. He’s been growing on me this week as a flier in daily and redraft leagues.

Crockett Gillmore could see an uptick in looks with Maxx Williams out, but Matt Schaub is schauby.

The Rams will be without Robert Quinn and Trumaine Johnson this week, which is a positive for the Cardinals offense, which shouldn’t have as much trouble against St. Louis as they did in their first matchup this year. Carson Palmer, David Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald and John Brown are all strong plays.

Michael Floyd is questionable, but will play. It looks like John Brown is healthier though and should remain the No. 2 receiver in St, Louis.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins is questionable, but has finally been cleared to play, so it looks like he will. He hasn’t played since September, so his snap count and usage remain a question mark, but this is a nice matchup and he’ll have some upside.

Philip Rivers won’t get any reinforcements this week, with offensive linemen D.J. Fluker and King Dunlap both out for this game.

Ryan Mathews is still out with a brain injury, which should help DeMarco Murray a bit. If Jamie Collins and Dont’a Hightower were to miss (they are questionable) then Murray gets a bump there as well.

Heath Miller is questionable, but not expected to go after missing practice this week. Jesse James should get the start and has some fantasy appeal.

Justin Houston is out for Kansas City with a knee injury, which helps Derek Carr a ton, as Houston is one of the best pass rushers in the league.

Sunday GPP/Cash

SUNDAY GPP/CASH: I still like this lineup I was using for Thursday games. The more I sit with it, the more I’m good with playing it in cash games as well as GPP. — Big Ben is pretty much tied with Cam this week for me, so the cheaper price wins out. David Johnson has a ton of upside for his price and should get enough work to reach value without a problem. Rawls should see more work than last week and last week he still had a good game. Bryant is way too cheap for his upside, which is great against the Colts. OBJ won’t have Revis to contend with, so is easily a Top 3 play this week. Jeffery is going to see a ton of targets with Royal out and Wilson hurting. Walker has been a top tight end all season and gets a great matchup. The Bears are scary, but I still don’t trust the 49ers on the road to do anything.

Sunday GPP

Sunday GPP 1

Sunday GPP 2

Sunday GPP 2

UPDATE: Sunday GPPs: Above here I have two separate stacks. One for the Falcons and one for Kansas City. I don’t like Matt Ryan usually, but this matchup has gotten better with two of the Bucs top pass rushers will be out and the secondary is already bad. Matt and Julio should get up to some mischief down by the school yard. McCoy and Forte are two contrarian plays I like today. Shady will be without Karlos Williams and has been doing well even in tough matchups, like last week vs KC, while Forte is splitting time with Langford, but I think his receiving skills will be in demand with Royal and Wilson out. Anderson has been beating Hillman out lately and doing well in doing so and gets a beauty of a matchup. He still might have high ownership percentages, but his upside makes up for that. Jeffery is the chalk play I will be using in every contest this week. Martavis Bryan is always a favorite GPP play. He can take one 80 yards in a blink. A.J. Green will be without Eifert, which should funnel targets his way and give him a good upside even though this game could be a blowout.

Sunday Only Cash

Sunday Only Cash

Sunday Only Cash: I like Newton and Ben as the two best cash game QBa and I can’t get away from Johnson and Rawls as good, cheap plays that will most likely reach value with a shot at getting much more. Amendola is playing, so should be a safe 10 target player and Bryant’t price is just too good for me. He finds ways to keep his floor high and we know his upside. Olsen is a safe stack with Cam and Santos and the Bengals are my “pay up” for picks in the dreaded kicker/D/ST slots.

DraftKings Lineup Configurations

THURSDAY GPP

One of my favorite stacks this week is Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brandon Marshall against the Giants. Everyone has been carving them up and Fitz/BMarsh should do the same. Their numbers are silly this year when you consider how overlooked they were in the preseason. They are a rock solid stack. I’m going with some really big names at WR this week along with Marshall including Demaryius Thomas, Jarvis Landry, and TY Hilton. All of these guys are pretty pricey but they won’t be as highly owned as studs like Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, and DeAndre Hopkins. I’m going to hope that the good matchups for this roster trump the relative safety of the bigger named studs. Because I went expensive at WR I had to find some RB value and I think I accomplished that with Eddie Lacy and Buck Allen. Both are the primary ball carriers for their teams and both are very cheap considering the upside they bring. Lacy, in particular, could really pay off his price tag. For my TE I’m going to go with Kyle Rudolph against the Seahawks. Seattle can’t really cover the TE this year and Rudolph has been the most reliable target for Teddy Bridgewater the last two weeks. My defense is the Cardinals against a weak St. Louis offense.

SUNDAY Cash

Cam Newton is by far the safest play on the board. New Orleans can’t stop anyone and even if Cam is 50% owned he’s still a great play for cash. Remember, we don’t care about ownership percentages in cash games; we only care about safe players that’ll help us get into the top 50% of the field. Cam will do that. At RB I’m looking for players who have no competition for carries. DeAngelo and a super cheap starting RB David Johnson get that done. For my WR I want good matchups and targets. Marshall, Hilton, and Jeffrey are all the top options for their teams and face bottom ten pass defenses. What’s best about all of them is that they are reasonably priced so you can fit them all into your lineup. There’s a good chance all three of them get 10+ targets this week. As long as they don’t pull a Demaryius (1 catch on 11 targets) they are going to be fine. I love Kelce against Oakland. I love all TE against Oakland. Shady McCoy has been showing he’s matchup proof and Karlos Williams is still hurting. I like him in a game the Bills are favored in to get a ton of work. The Bengals against Austin Davis? That sound really safe.

SUNDAY GPP

The worse the Miami defense plays the better Ryan Tannehill’s stat line ends up. This week Tannehill faces a terrible defense (Baltimore) and he should be able to rip them apart. If I playing a cash game I’d pair him with Jarvis Landry, but in a GPP I want to shoot for the moon so I’m going with DeVante Parker. He had a nice TD last week and with Rishard Matthews banged up he should start to see some more reps. The upside is huge with Parker. I’m also going with some upside with Devin Funchess against the Saint league-worst pass D. In order to balance out the risk of Parker and Funchess I’m going to go ultra safe with the rest of my lineup and take studs AP, Doug Martin, Antonio Brown, and Julio Jones. Heck, even the Broncos defense and Julius Thomas at TE are fairly safe given their matchups. This lineups has a little bit of everything that you like in a GPP: safety, upside, risk.

SUNDAY GPP UPDATE

There is so much value in going with a lower end QB that I think we just might see their ownership exceed the ownership of some safer studs like Big Ben. His matchup against Indy is a great one and he should be able to keep up his solid pace. I’m pairing him with Martavis Bryant as he won’t be facing Vontae Davis and is a GPP darling with double TD potential. I’m getting a little wacky at RB due to some interesting matchups. I read a stat the other that the basically says that Blount murders bad rush defenses. I like the sound of that so he’s in. The play of Sims is a little more out there because he’s not even the main RB on his team and the Falcons are a top matchup against RB. So why Sims and not Martin? One of the big reasons ATL ranks so low against RB is that they give up the most catches and yards per game to the RB position. Doug Martin doesn’t catch passes, Charles Sims does. Go look what Darren Sproles and Lance Dunbar did to this defense earlier in the year. My other 3 WR are all pretty much chalk but I don’t mind the potentially high ownership because I’m differentiating elsewhere. Julius Thomas the Chiefs are also pretty safe plays that shouldn’t keep this lineup from being successful if my less popular plays do end up hitting.

Thursday GPP

So, as usual I’m not a big fan of playing Thursday night players. However, Vegas has the game as a close (-3), relatively high scoring affair (47 O/U), so I’m going to include at least 1 person. That person? Eddie Lacy. I don’t know where Jake is, but The Fat Man is back! He has had two productive games in a row, and December is his time to shine. Yes, this game is indoors, but Green Bay will have something to prove after an at home loss to the rival Bears on Brett Favre night on Thanksgiving. That being said, I’m not touching Lacy in cash games. He’s going to have to do a lot more than what he’s shown in the past two weeks for me to trust him in a 50/50 or Head-to-Head matchup.

At QB, I love the matchups for both Tannehill and Alex Smith. While the latter is not an exciting play, he does not make mistakes and gets a matchup against a Raiders team that is giving up over 280 yards through the air each week. Tannehill gets a matchup against the hapless Ravens. If you can pair him up with Landry, it could be a deadly combination for the second week in a row.  At TE, I’m rolling with Kyle Rudolph. After a slow start to the season, Minnesota has finally realized over the past two weeks that it has a solid TE option. In the past two games, he has 13 catches on 19 targets for 159 yards and a TD. I like him to have his third solid game in a row against a Seahawks team that is giving up the 4th most FP to TEs on the season.

I’m rolling with Antonio Brown, even in a seemingly tough matchup against Vontae Davis. Davis will have a hard time stopping a receiver like Brown who can line up all over the field. He’ll especially have trouble covering him on crossing routes. In fact, the only three corner backs I ever shy away from when deciding on receiver are Josh Norman, Richard Sherman and Darrelle Revis. Other than that, I think WRs of Brown’s caliber should almost always be taken. I’ve also lined up Alshon Jeffery who, in my opinion, is a must start WR when healthy. Jay Cutler targets him so often, that even if he was only catching 50% of those he’d be having great games. At D, I’m rolling with Miami at home against Matt “Pick Six” Schaub. In tournaments, it’s hard to avoid a matchup against a guy so prone to major mistakes. UPDATE: Eddie Lacy apparently cannot figure out what a curfew is and was given a miniscule workload by McCarthy because of it. Lacy was looking so promising, but god forbid he stay out a little bit late. Sometimes the NFL’s team rules are so damn pedantic. I’m avoiding the Pack run game for the rest of the season. Ugh.

Sunday 50/50

Hasselbeck and Smith. Doesn’t the pairing just have a certain je ne sais quoi? Sexy names? Nope. Sexy players? Well, I guess it depends on who you ask. Either way, what I do know is that they are both dependable players who don’t make a lot of mistakes. They also both have excellent passing matchups this week. While neither of them will score you 30 points, 17-20 is a very reasonable expectation, which makes them excellent cash plays this week. Neither the Steelers nor the Raiders can stop the passing game, so I’m starting these two moderately priced QBs with aplomb. I went for a lot of balance with the cash lineup here. You don’t see any high-priced players such as Antonio Brown nor Julio Jones. Instead, I’ve loaded it with some of the most consistent receiving threats: Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker and Alshon Jeffery. All three have had solid weeks each week they’ve played. That solid play will continue this week in good matchups against the Giants and the Niners.

At RB, I’m rolling with DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, two aging RBs who have been as steady as any RBs out there. They are both staying healthy (cross your fingers….injuries have been multiplying in recent weeks it seems!) and plugging along. Indy is actually decent against the run, but D-Will is a major threat in the passing game as well. Stewart gets a matchup against the pathetic Saints defense. Delanie Walker has been a safety blanket extraordinaire for Mariota and the Bengals get an Austin David-led Browns this week.

Sunday GPP

I’m rolling with Matty Hass here again as I love his upside against the Steelers. I’ve also found a way to fit Cam Newton into this lineup, something which has proven difficult with his high price. Still, his upside this week is off the charts. I’ve brought back CJ Anderson into the mix and am rolling with a cheaper TE in Kyle Rudolph. TE has some intriguing plays this week, including Scott Chandler and Vance “WHO???” McDonald. Vance has been a nice surprise for the Niners since Vernon Davis was traded away a couple of weeks ago. DeSean Jackson (still only $4,600?) and Martavis Bryant offer excellent upside with their ability to stretch opposing defenses.

Sunday GPP Update

I haven’t made a ton of changes here – the QBs and RBs are all players I’ve highlighted on previous lineups for this week – but there are a few players I’ve highlighted here that I’d like to go over, particularly at the TE position. Scott Chandler is probably on a lot of people’s radars this week as he takes over for Gronkowski in the Pats’ offense. Brady has been losing receiving options quickly, but will get a large red zone target in the 6’7″ Chandler. He went for 5/58/1 last week and could put up similar numbers this week. Vance McDonald has been a pleasant surprise for the Niners since Vernon Davis was traded away a couple of weeks ago. He offers Blaine Gabbert a reliable receiving option, scoring in each of the past two weeks. He is only worth using as a deep tournament play, but could once again pay off.

Odds

A very simple, but good start to DFS research is to look at the over/unders and odds. Obviously you want your players in games where Vegas believes the game will be high scoring and on winning teams, while your defenses should come from games they believe will be low scoring.
