Welcome, Fake Footballers! Aside from smashing on opponents each week in our yearly fantasy football leagues, we at The Fake Football also do some dabbling in the fine arts of Daily Fantasy Sports. If you like the rush of fantasy football in one-week portions (with a few pesos on the line), then Daily Fantasy Sports may be your cup of tea as well. This season, we will be pumping out weekly advice for the daily games run by our pals over at Headsupfantasy.com, which is a new platform that offers daily gaming with NO RAKE taken. Need convincing? Take it from the Headsupfantasy folks themselves:

“It is our goal to present our users with the most enjoyable and affordable form of competition possible. Under no circumstances will Headsupfantasy take any percentages from user funds in challenges or pools.  Users can use our organized categories to find the perfect game for them. We have provided the clearest form of scoring for each sport so that all our users can compete on an even scale.”

So, instead of the host site taking a percentage of your hard earned winnings, you simply purchase “tokens”, and use one per contest. Now that you have an idea of how things work, let’s check out the format:

Each week, players have multiple formats to choose from including 2 athlete, 3 athlete, and 6 athlete contests. Within those formats there are further options for fantasy degenerates to enjoy! All scoring is standard fantasy scoring…4 pt passing TDs and no PPR.


2 Athlete: Choose any TWO fantasy players then compete head-to-head in any one of five categories:

* Most combined fantasy points  * Most touchdowns  * Most passing yards

* Most rushing Yards  * Most receiving yards

 * 3 Athlete: Choose any THREE fantasy players then compete head-to-head in any one of five categories:

* Most combined fantasy points  * Most touchdowns  * Most passing yards

* Most rushing Yards  * Most receiving yards

6 Athlete: Choose any SIX fantasy players then compete head-to-head in either:

* Most combined fantasy points  * Most combined touchdowns

(6 athlete contests can be either QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/TE *fixed format* or six of any position)



With so many different contest options, we are going to highlight our favorite three formats and the picks we’re rolling with this Sunday. With the ability to select any fantasy football player, the options are endless, but here are the top plays for week 9:


* 2 Athlete: Most Rushing Yards

– We’re going with “Most Rushing Yards” in the 2 Athlete format again this week and our first running back is one who disappointed last week. Marshawn Lynch should have dominated in a Week 8 matchup with St. Louis, but due to Seattle’s offensive struggles, Beast mode didn’t quite get on track. This week, Lynch and the Seahawks face Tampa Bay at home with the Seattle coaching staff set on utilizing their best offensive weapon. Next to Lynch, we will use Jamaal Charles this week, as he has been great all season and gets the Buffalo Bills this week, who have been giving up tons of yardage on the ground to opposing running backs. THE PICK: Marshawn Lynch & Jamaal Charles


* 3 Athlete: Most Receiving Yards

– This week we will go with two favorites at wide receiver in the “Most Receiving Yards” category and then we are going to roll the dice with a tight end. First, Dez Bryant is Week 9’s consensus top receiver so we will make sure to pencil him in as he draws a nice matchup with Minnesota. Next to Dez, we will roll with Jordy Nelson, who is the focal point of Green Bay’s passing offense. With Randall Cobb and Jermichael Finley out, and James Jones a game time call, Nelson should be solid yet again. Finally, Rob Gronkwoski rounds out our three choices. We aren’t limited to wide receivers in this format, and Gronk should bounce back nicely from a slow Week 8. THE PICK: Dez Bryant, Jordy Nelson, Rob Gronkowski


* 6 Athlete: Most Combined Fantasy Points (fixed format)

– At quarterback this week, we will use Drew Brees as our bye week replacement for Peyton Manning. There are no runaway quarterback options this week, so Brees seems safest. At running back, we will use our two selections from above, in Marshawn Lynch and Jamaal Charles, both of which should have big weeks. At wide receiver and tight end, we will keep things easy and use our three receiving options from the “3 Athlete” format above. Dez, Jordy, and the one and only Gronk should finish off our “6 Athlete” contest nicely and be tough to top. THE PICK: Drew Brees, Marshawn Lynch, Jamaal Charles, Dez Bryant, Jordy Nelson, Rob Gronkowski
