Headsupfantasy.com Week 2 Picks September 13, 2013  |  Jeff

Welcome, Fake Footballers! Aside from smashing on opponents each week in our yearly fantasy football leagues, we at The Fake Football also do some dabbling in the fine arts of Daily Fantasy Sports. If you like the rush of fantasy football in one-week portions (with a few pesos on the line), then Daily Fantasy Sports may be your cup of tea as well. This season, we will be pumping out weekly advice for the daily games run by our pals over at Headsupfantasy.com, which is a new platform that offers daily gaming with NO RAKE taken. Need convincing? Take it from the Headsupfantasy folks themselves:

“It is our goal to present our users with the most enjoyable and affordable form of competition possible. Under no circumstances will Headsupfantasy take any percentages from user funds in challenges or pools.  Users can use our organized categories to find the perfect game for them. We have provided the clearest form of scoring for each sport so that all our users can compete on an even scale.”

So, instead of the host site taking a percentage of your hard earned winnings, you simply purchase “tokens”, and use one per contest. Now that you have an idea of how things work, let’s check out the format:

Each week, players have multiple formats to choose from including 2 athlete, 3 athlete, and 6 athlete contests. Within those formats there are further options for fantasy degenerates to enjoy! All scoring is standard fantasy scoring…4 pt passing TDs and no PPR.

2 Athlete: Choose any TWO fantasy players then compete head-to-head in any one of five categories:

* Most combined fantasy points  * Most touchdowns  * Most passing yards

* Most rushing Yards  * Most receiving yards

 * 3 Athlete: Choose any THREE fantasy players then compete head-to-head in any one of five categories:

* Most combined fantasy points  * Most touchdowns  * Most passing yards

* Most rushing Yards  * Most receiving yards

6 Athlete: Choose any SIX fantasy players then compete head-to-head in either:

* Most combined fantasy points  * Most combined touchdowns

(6 athlete contests can be either QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/TE *fixed format* or six of any position)

With so many different contest options, we are going to highlight our favorite three formats and the picks we’re rolling with this Sunday. With the ability to select any fantasy football player, the options are endless, but here are the top plays for week 2:

* 2 Athlete: Most Receving Yards

– This week, we are going with most receiving yards in our “2 Athlete” format. Despite a lackluster stat line in week one, Calvin Johnson had some extremely close calls that could have easily boosted his fantasy performance up to the “Megatron” levels we are used to seeing. Do you think the best receiver in the game will have back-to-back down weeks? I wouldn’t bet on that either. The other half of our week two receiving duo is Vincent Jackson. I love getting a piece of these NFC South shootouts and this week’s juicy matchup is TB/NO. Last season, VJax hauled in 81 yards and 216 yards against the Saints, either of which would be solid totals for this matchup. Expect Jackson to keep the momentum rolling from his 154 yard week one performance.  THE PICK: Calvin Johnson & Vincent Jackson

* 3 Athlete: Most Rushing Yards

– In the “3 Athlete” format, we’re going to look at assembling a trio of top running backs this week. The first, and easiest, choice is Philadelphia’s LeSean McCoy. Shady looked downright dominant on Monday night against Washington and I fully expect him to bring the heat once again as Chip Kelly attempts to break the NFL offense land speed record. Next, I am going to hope the Cleveland Browns coaching staff will keep their word and give Trent Richardson more work this week. T-Rich is far too good to be underutilized like he was in week one, and the Browns coaches have seemingly realized this. Along with McCoy and Richardson, I am going to pull out a real surprise pick and go with DeAngelo Williams to complete our entry. Williams looked solid in week one against the stout Seattle defense (outside of a costly late fumble) and now faces the same Bills defense that allowed the only week one 100+ yard rushing performance from a running back (Shane Vereen). THE PICK: LeSean McCoy, Trent Richardson, DeAngelo Williams.

* 6 Athlete: Most Combined Fantasy Points (fixed format)

– In the “fixed format” setup, we use a QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/TE lineup. At quarterback, we’re going to keep things simple and use Mr. Aaron Rodgers. The Packers are at home facing a Washington defense that looked suspect in week one, particularly in the first half. At running back, we are also going to keep things vanilla and gain our edge at the wide receiver position. We covered both of these studs above, but LeSean McCoy and Trent Richardson…come on down! Now, at wide receiver we will take two less conventional picks that have some week two upside in hopes of gaining an edge. Vincent Jackson is The Fake Football’s consensus #9 wide receiver this week, and has the potential to lead the position in fantasy points. Joining Jackson will be Aaron Rodgers’ stud target Jordy Nelson. Jordy had a fine week one, and should produce once again as the Packers take on the Redskins. At tight end, Jason Witten is the week two selection. Tony Romo seemed locked onto his security blanket in week one, especially in the redzone, which means big things for fantasy points. THE PICK: Aaron Rodgers, LeSean McCoy, Trent Richardson, Vincent Jackson, Jordy Nelson, Jason Witten.

Good luck in Week 2, and be sure to check out Headsupfantasy!

Do you think Vernon Davis is going to have a huge fantasy year or was the first game a fluke again like last year?

It’s going to be hard not to pick McCoy every week. He’s my man until he proves otherwise.
