Headsupfantasy.com Week 16 Picks December 20, 2013  |  Jeff

Welcome, Fake Footballers! Aside from smashing on opponents each week in our yearly fantasy football leagues, we at The Fake Football also do some dabbling in the fine arts of Daily Fantasy Sports. If you like the rush of fantasy football in one-week portions (with a few pesos on the line), then Daily Fantasy Sports may be your cup of tea as well. This season, we will be pumping out weekly advice for the daily games run by our pals over at Headsupfantasy.com, which is a new platform that offers daily gaming with NO RAKE taken. Need convincing? Take it from the Headsupfantasy folks themselves:

“It is our goal to present our users with the most enjoyable and affordable form of competition possible. Under no circumstances will Headsupfantasy take any percentages from user funds in challenges or pools.  Users can use our organized categories to find the perfect game for them. We have provided the clearest form of scoring for each sport so that all our users can compete on an even scale.”

So, instead of the host site taking a percentage of your hard earned winnings, you simply purchase “tokens”, and use one per contest. Now that you have an idea of how things work, let’s check out the format:

Each week, players have multiple formats to choose from including 2 athlete, 3 athlete, and 6 athlete contests. Within those formats there are further options for fantasy degenerates to enjoy! All scoring is standard fantasy scoring…4 pt passing TDs and no PPR.

* 2 Athlete: Choose any TWO fantasy players then compete head-to-head in any one of five categories:

* Most combined fantasy points  * Most touchdowns  * Most passing yards

* Most rushing Yards  * Most receiving yards

 * 3 Athlete: Choose any THREE fantasy players then compete head-to-head in any one of five categories:

* Most combined fantasy points  * Most touchdowns  * Most passing yards

* Most rushing Yards  * Most receiving yards

* 6 Athlete: Choose any SIX fantasy players then compete head-to-head in either:

* Most combined fantasy points  * Most combined touchdowns

(6 athlete contests can be either QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/TE *fixed format* or six of any position)

With so many different contest options, we are going to highlight our favorite three formats and the picks we’re rolling with this Sunday. With the ability to select any fantasy football player, the options are endless, but here are the top plays for Week 16:

* 2 Athlete: Most Receiving Yards

– This week in the ‘2 Athlete’ format, we will go with a pair of wide receivers who will stack up the most receiving yardage in Week 16. I’m in a gambling mood, so we will be skipping the great Megatron this week and choosing two receivers not named Calvin Johnson. The first is Josh Gordon, who is in line for a huge game this weekend. Cleveland tight end Jordan Cameron is out for the Browns Week 16 contest with the Jets, leaving Gordon as the only viable receiving target on the team. Mucho targets are in store. Next to Gordon, we will use A.J. Green who gets to face the Minnesota defense this week. The Vikings have given up the third most receiving yards to opposing wide receivers this year and big A.J. will keep that trend rolling at home. THE PICK: Josh Gordon and A.J. Green

* 3 Athlete: Most Rushing Yards

– This week, there is a clear trio of running backs to lead our ‘3 Athlete’ battle in the ‘Most Rushing Yards’ category and all three have stellar matchups. First up is LeSean McCoy, who gets the golden goose matchup in Week 16…the Chicago Bears. Chicago routinely gets blasted by opposing running backs, and McCoy has the talent to make the gash even bigger this week. Next to McCoy, we will roll with Frank Gore. Gore and the 49ers draw the Atlanta Falcons this week, who have surrendered the 2nd most yardage to opposing running backs this season, behind only Chicago. San Francisco should jump out to a healthy lead in this one and ride Gore to the final horn. Our last running back for Week 16 is DeMarco Murray. Murray faces Washington this week and will undoubtedly be fed a beefy workload after his criminal under-utilization last week as Dallas melted down against Green Bay. Washington’s defense is nothing to be afraid of,  so Murray should be able to roll off a nice yardage total, as he did in the first half of Week 15. THE PICK: LeSean McCoy, Frank Gore, DeMarco Murray

* 6 Athlete: Most Combined Fantasy Points (fixed format)

– We have outlined our top picks for the week at running back and wide receiver above, and well will stick with chalk at the quarterback and tight end positions, going with Peyton Manning and Jimmy Graham. It is awfully hard to pick against either of these players, as they are the clear top option at their respective positions, so we will look to gain our edge at RB and WR. Peyton will lead the way, followed by LeSean McCoy and Frank Gore at running back, and Josh Gordon and A.J. Green at wide receiver. Big Jimmy Graham will be looking to bounce back this week at Carolina after a tough Week 15, and that is one player I wouldn’t bet against. PICK: Peyton Manning, LeSean McCoy, Frank Gore, Josh Gordon, A.J. Green, Jimmy Graham

Good luck in Week 16, and be sure to check out Headsupfantasy!
