Draftster Plays- Week 10: Return of Megatron November 7, 2014  |  adam cook

By: Adam Cook (@fantasy_schnerd)

Man running back is tough this week as my favorite play (Jeremy Hill) plays on Thursday night. The studs have good matchups, but the cheap options have rough defenses coming up. Tre Mason faces Arizona, Mark Ingram faces the 49ers, and Lamar Miller faces the Lions. I’m spending big on running backs this week and finding value at the wide receiver position with guys like Justin Hunter, Allen Robinson, and Vincent Jackson (more later). Enjoy this Week 9’s top plays and hit me up on twitter if you have any lineup questions.  If you like playing daily fantasy football, go check out www.draftster.com!

Top Play

Ben Roethlisberger- Pittsburgh Steelers- $8100

What’s this guy get after throwing an NFL record 12 touchdowns in 2 weeks? The New York Jets! He is 3rd in FPPG, yet is still only the 5th highest priced QB. The Jets rank 31st against the pass and there are rumors the Steelers will continue to go with the no huddle offense. The Jets are stout against the run meaning the Steelers should have a pass heavy game plan. The Jets have also allowed 24 touchdown passes to only 1 interception.

Top Value Play

Ryan Tannehill- Miami Dolphins- $6000

Tannehill doesn’t have the greatest matchup versus the Lions, but he does have the hot hand right now. Tannehill has 20 fantasy points or more in 4 out of the past 5 games. He isn’t the greatest passer, but his rushing ability makes him a safe option. The former college WR has topped 40 yards rushing in 4 straight games! He won’t light the world on fire, but he is a solid bet for 20 fantasy points if you are looking to save money.

Running Backs

Top Play

Matt Forte- Chicago Bears- $9000

I don’t care what his price is, you have to find a way to get this guy in your DFS lineups in PPR settings. In his previous meeting versus Green Bay this year, he posted 122 rushing yards, 5 receptions and 49 yards receiving for 25.11 fantasy points without scoring a touchdown! The Packers have the worst run defense in the league in yards per game by a wide margin allowing 153.5 RYPG. He is a must play in any format.

Top Value Play

Chris Ivory- New York Jets- $4300

There aren’t a lot of cheap options at the running back position leaving me to take a risk with Ivory. The Steelers will be missing Troy Polamalu and Ryan Shazier depleting their run defense. Ivory has been the best Jets running back this year and they had to go away from him in a blowout last week versus the Chiefs. The Michael Vick experiment should be able to move the offense towards the goal line more often this week leaving goal line plunge opportunities open for Ivory. If the Jets want to win, they will have a run heavy game plan getting this man 20 touches.

Wide Receivers

Top Play

Calvin Johnson- Detroit Lions- $7700

Your thinking is all wrong if you don’t think Megatron will be motivated to go off now that he is near 100% after missing multiple weeks. The Dolphins defense is fresh off a shut out of San Diego, but they have not been as effective on the road. In 3 home games this year, Calvin has 2 touchdowns and an average yardage total of 84.3. His price has decreased since his injury and now is the time to take advantage before it skyrocket’s again.

Top Value Play

Vincent Jackson- Tampa Bay Buccaneers- $5100

He may seem like a bust on the outside, but the fact is that his targets and opportunities to produce have been as high as ever. He gets to face an Atlanta team who he has historically dominated against and who ranks 22nd versus opposing WR’s. The Falcons give up the 3rd most passing yards per game in the league at 280.8 YPG. Mike Evans is the hot name, but V-Jax is safer and still leading the team in targets each week.

Tight Ends

Top Play

Julius Thomas- Denver Broncos- $6100

Thomas is my top tight end play versus the Oakland Raiders as Jimmy Graham is $1,300 more and has a tough matchup versus San Francisco. Julius has been quiet for a few games now, meaning his breakout is on the way. You don’t want to miss out on that breakout. Don’t forget that this guy has 10 receiving touchdowns this year. Peyton Manning likes to keep his pass catchers happy and this seems like a good week for Julius to eat.

Top Value Play

Jace Amaro- New York Jets- $3100

The emerging and talented rookie is better off left for tournament lineups compared to 50/50 lineups. Amaro faces a Steelers team that ranks 22nd versus the tight end and they are missing Polamalu and Shazier. Before last week, he had 50 yards in 2 out of the past 3 games. He gets a home matchup where he has been better as well averaging 47.6 YPG compared to 11.8 on the road.

Team Defenses

Top Plays

Baltimore Ravens- $4000

You know this team is mad after getting whipped in a rivalry game and losing two straight. They go back to the home confines where they have averaged 9.5 FPPG compared to only 6.6 on the road. They are 6th in FPPG (8.0), yet aren’t priced that high. They have a great matchup versus a team starting a rookie quarterback and rookie running back. Start with confidence.

Buffalo Bills- $3400

The Chiefs like to focus on a conservative run game and the Bills are one of the best teams in the league versus the run (92.3 YPG). Not being able to run the football could mean a lot of Alex Smith passes and that could be profitable. They are 3rd in FPPG (10.0), but have a middle of the pack price. They are also coming off a bye where they should be well rested and well prepared.
