2013 Week 7 NFL Picks
2013 Week 7 NFL Picks: Neil’s Three and Out
Chicago Bears at Washington Redskins
Washington is the favorite in this one, which is surprising. I suppose that you can assume that they have to win another game sometime and that the Chicago Bears defense isn’t what it once was. But, are they really going to beat the Bears?
Obviously, I don’t think they will. This isn’t the Rex Grossman era in Chicago, as they boast an excellent offense. The emergence of Alshon Jeffrey, addition of Martellus Bennett and Marc Trestman’s offense have this team posting points with the best of them.
Washington threw up a dud last week against the Cowboys and have shown little to be optimistic about heading into the contest. This is a huge game for both teams, as the will look to keep pace with their division mates, while Washington isn’t out of it yet, somehow.
Take any points you can and expect a Bears win outright.
San Francisco 49ers at Tennessee Titans
The Niners are favorites by 4.5 as it stands, which seems reasonable,as the Titans face a strong defense for the 4th straight game. The Titans have pegged Jake Locker, who is returning from a hip injury as their starter, which is a good thing for the offense.
The Niners head into this contest hot, with 3 straight convincing wins, where they posted over 30 points in each. The cross country trip is of mild concern, but their run game has been impressive and should be a major factor Sunday. The Titans have struggled against the run of late.
With San Francisco clicking, an excellent effort from the Titans might not be enough. It is a nightmare matchup for Locker to return to and expect the 49ers to take care of the football and post enough points to make it uncomfortable for the Titans’ offense.
The Niners are the better team and they’ll prove it by at least a Touchdown.
Denver Broncos at Indianapolis Colts
No one has stopped the Broncos yet, so with the current spread at less than a Touchdown, it is tough not to like Denver. Toss in the extra motivation Jim Irsay added to Peyton Manning’s return and you’ve got the makings of a blow out. Seriously.
Andrew Luck and the Colts have looked impressive at times, beating up on the 49ers and then beating the Seahawks, but they’ve also lost to Miami and San Diego. Their play-makers are solid, but far from being as explosive. The Chargers’ defense suffocated them last week and Von Miller returns for the Broncos.
The Colts are a playoff team and could hang around for awhile, but expecting them to either limit, or keep up with the Broncos is unrealistic. Expect at least 300 and 3 through the air for Peyton Manning and a couple scores on the ground.
I like the Broncos by 2 scores, but play the spread at the Broncos minus a Touchdown.
2013 Week 7 NFL Picks: Adam’s ‘Real’ ‘Fake’ Football Predictions – LTU Style
Lock of the Week : Kansas City Chiefs over the Houston Texans
The Texans are an absolute mess right now with consecutive blowout loses to the 49ers and Rams. With that being said, there is no way the struggling Texans are going to march into Arrowhead and pull off an upset. Case Keenum is making his first start of his NFL career and against one of the best defenses in the league at that. Wade Phillips won’t be able to contain Jamaal Charles as no team has been able to all year long. Easy enough? Chiefs 27 Texans 13.
Toss Up of the Week: Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers
The Ravens and Steelers have one of the best rivalries in all of football and this matchup is rarely a blow out. The Ravens are coming off a tough loss to Green Bay last week and they seem to overcome tough losses with victories under John Harbaugh. The Steelers showed some life last week against the Jets and are looking to carry over their momentum this week against their hated rivals. If you like hard hitting and good defense then you will want to tune into this one. I expect this one to come down to the last 5 minutes. Steelers 20 Ravens 17.
Upset of the Week: Tampa Bay Buccaneers over the Atlanta Falcons
I’m expecting a huge “congratulations” at the end of this game for Greg Schiano and Mike Glennon on their first win of the season. Glennon has been better than I expected, even though he still has a long way to go. The Falcons are a mess right now and are more than likely to be without Julio Jones, Roddy White, and Steven Jackson. Tony Gonzalez doesn’t have the youth behind him anymore to carry an offense. The Buccaneers may only have to score 20 points to win this game. Don’t expect many “dirty bird” dances this week. Bucs 24 Falcons 14.
2013 Week 7 NFL Picks: Jon’s Set the Spread
Coming off a strong win at home against a division leader the Chargers pack up to take on a cellar-dweller in Florida. Everyone is picking the Chargers to win this one, and they should be – it’s hard to see a path other than 0-16 for the Jags at the moment… but, with a strong outing from Maurice Jones-Drew and Justin Blackmon’s domination moving the chains the Jaguars were able to hang around the Broncos for much of the game last week.
The Jaguars may not get three turnovers out of Philip Rivers like they did Peyton Manning, but they do return home against a team who is making a cross country trip on a short week.
Look for Chad Henne to turn some of last week’s field goals into touchdowns and the Jags to stay within shouting distance this week. Resist the urge to overbet, and play the Chargers less a field goal.
The Chargers come into this game just 1-2 on the season and 1-1-1 ATS while playing away from home; favored by 9, expect a closer contest as they take on the long flight to Jacksonville for a 1pm start, Chargers by 3.
