Headsupfantasy.com Wild Card Weekend Picks January 3, 2014  |  Jeff

Welcome, Fake Footballers! Aside from smashing on opponents each week in our yearly fantasy football leagues, we at The Fake Football also do some dabbling in the fine arts of Daily Fantasy Sports. If you like the rush of fantasy football in one-week portions (with a few pesos on the line), then Daily Fantasy Sports may be your cup of tea as well. This season, we will be pumping out weekly advice for the daily games run by our pals over at Headsupfantasy.com, which is a new platform that offers daily gaming with NO RAKE taken. Need convincing? Take it from the Headsupfantasy folks themselves:

“It is our goal to present our users with the most enjoyable and affordable form of competition possible. Under no circumstances will Headsupfantasy take any percentages from user funds in challenges or pools.  Users can use our organized categories to find the perfect game for them. We have provided the clearest form of scoring for each sport so that all our users can compete on an even scale.”

So, instead of the host site taking a percentage of your hard earned winnings, you simply purchase “tokens”, and use one per contest. Now that you have an idea of how things work, let’s check out the format:

Each week, players have multiple formats to choose from including 2 athlete, 3 athlete, and 6 athlete contests. Within those formats there are further options for fantasy degenerates to enjoy! All scoring is standard fantasy scoring…4 pt passing TDs and no PPR.

2 Athlete: Choose any TWO fantasy players then compete head-to-head in any one of five categories:

* Most combined fantasy points  * Most touchdowns  * Most passing yards

* Most rushing Yards  * Most receiving yards

 * 3 Athlete: Choose any THREE fantasy players then compete head-to-head in any one of five categories:

* Most combined fantasy points  * Most touchdowns  * Most passing yards

* Most rushing Yards  * Most receiving yards

6 Athlete: Choose any SIX fantasy players then compete head-to-head in either:

* Most combined fantasy points  * Most combined touchdowns

(6 athlete contests can be either QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/TE *fixed format* or six of any position)

WILD CARD WEEKEND PICKS

With so many different contest options, we are going to highlight our favorite three formats and the picks we’re rolling with this Sunday. With the ability to select any fantasy football player, the options are endless, but here are the top plays for Wild Card Weekend:

* 2 Athlete: Most Rushing Yards

– This weekend, there are are two clear studs at the running back position. Since we don’t deal with pesky salary caps, LeSean McCoy and Jamaal Charles are the two clear top choices. These are the two best backs to trot out this weekend, but you will likely run into plenty of contests in which your opponent has already selected these two studs. If that is the case and you are itching to get in on the ‘2 Athlete, Most Rushing Yards’ category, then Frank Gore is the man to pair with either McCoy or Charles to still have a nice shot at a win. We have them ranked McCoy, Charles, Gore here at The Fake Football, so that plan should work just fine. THE PICK: LeSean McCoy, Jamaal Charles (Frank Gore if you need a third option)

* 3 Athlete: Most Receiving Yards

– In the ‘3 Athlete’ category this week, we will lead off with the obvious top choice, and that is A.J. Green. Green is the lone certified stallion available this weekend, so I wouldn’t go into battle without him. Next to Green, we will use our man Jordy Nelson. Nelson has long been a favorite of ours at The Fake Football and he is in line for a nice day this weekend, despite a tricky matchup. With Aaron Rodgers back under center, Nelson put together a very nice stat line in Week 17 (10-161-0) and should be able to do so once again. There are plenty of options for our third option, and we will skip the rest of the eligible wide receivers and select big Jimbo Graham. Jimmy is one of the most reliable options on the card this weekend and should be able to rack up some decent yardage as New Orleans takes on Philadelphia. THE PICK: A.J. Green, Jordy Nelson, Jimmy Graham.

* 6 Athlete: Most Combined Fantasy Points (fixed format)

– This week, there are limited options available, which makes the ‘6 Athlete’ format tons of fun. We will start by using Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. Drew Brees is certainly tempting, but we will leave him alone as he is not the same Drew Brees on the road. At running back, we will take the two studs we mentioned above in LeSean McCoy and Jamaal Charles. At wide receiver and tight end, we can simply pluck our three picks from the ‘3 Athlete’ category and put a bow on our unstoppable lineup as A.J. Green, Jordy Nelson, and Jimmy Graham will pack quite a punch this weekend. PICK: Aaron Rodgers, LeSean McCoy, Jamaal Charles, A.J. Green, Jordy Nelson, Jimmy Graham.

Good luck this week, and be sure to check out Headsupfantasy!
