Headsupfantasy.com Week 5 Picks

Welcome, Fake Footballers! Aside from smashing on opponents each week in our yearly fantasy football leagues, we at The Fake Football also do some dabbling in the fine arts of Daily Fantasy Sports. If you like the rush of fantasy football in one-week portions (with a few pesos on the line), then Daily Fantasy Sports may be your cup of tea as well. This season, we will be pumping out weekly advice for the daily games run by our pals over at Headsupfantasy.com, which is a new platform that offers daily gaming with NO RAKE taken. Need convincing? Take it from the Headsupfantasy folks themselves:

“It is our goal to present our users with the most enjoyable and affordable form of competition possible. Under no circumstances will Headsupfantasy take any percentages from user funds in challenges or pools.  Users can use our organized categories to find the perfect game for them. We have provided the clearest form of scoring for each sport so that all our users can compete on an even scale.”

So, instead of the host site taking a percentage of your hard earned winnings, you simply purchase “tokens”, and use one per contest. Now that you have an idea of how things work, let’s check out the format:

Each week, players have multiple formats to choose from including 2 athlete, 3 athlete, and 6 athlete contests. Within those formats there are further options for fantasy degenerates to enjoy! All scoring is standard fantasy scoring…4 pt passing TDs and no PPR.

* 2 Athlete: Choose any TWO fantasy players then compete head-to-head in any one of five categories:

* Most combined fantasy points  * Most touchdowns  * Most passing yards

* Most rushing Yards  * Most receiving yards

 * 3 Athlete: Choose any THREE fantasy players then compete head-to-head in any one of five categories:

* Most combined fantasy points  * Most touchdowns  * Most passing yards

* Most rushing Yards  * Most receiving yards

6 Athlete: Choose any SIX fantasy players then compete head-to-head in either:

* Most combined fantasy points  * Most combined touchdowns

(6 athlete contests can be either QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/TE *fixed format* or six of any position)

WEEK 5 PICKS

With so many different contest options, we are going to highlight our favorite three formats and the picks we’re rolling with this Sunday. With the ability to select any fantasy football player, the options are endless, but here are the top plays for week 5:

* 2 Athlete: Most Receiving Yards

– This week, we are rolling with ‘Most Receiving Yards’ in the 2 Athlete format and we’ve got an unstoppable duo lined up. First, we are going to pencil in the great Megatron, Calvin Johnson. You don’t get in a car wreck every time you drive, but you still wear your seat belt right? Better safe than sorry is the mantra and that goes for our Headsupfantasy lineup as well as we don’t pass up on Calvin Johnson with a nice matchup (Green Bay). Next to Johnson, we are picking on the Philadelphia defense once again and going with Victor Cruz who will have a huge salsa session against the Eagles’ shaky secondary that gives up 325 passing yards per game. THE PICK: Calvin Johnson and Victor Cruz

* 3 Athlete: Most Passing Yards

– The 3 Athlete format this week is primed for quarterbacks and we’ve got a nice trio ready for piling up points. First, and obviously, we are going to use Peyton Manning who can’t be slowed by any defense constructed by mortal man. Next to the great Peyton, we are selecting another easy choice in Aaron Rodgers. Green Bay should be involved in a shootout with Detroit this week and Rodgers will be tough coming out of a bye. With two vanilla choices in the bag, we are going to mix things up and roll with Eli Manning as our third quarterback. This may seem a bit surprising, but as we mentioned above, the Philadelphia defense oozes fantasy points and this is just the remedy for Eli’s early season struggles. THE PICK: Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Eli Manning

* 6 Athlete: Most Combined Fantasy Points (fixed format)

– In the 6 athlete fixed format, we are going to look for our advantage at the wide receiver and running back slots. That means we are rolling with the usual suspects at quarterback (Peyton Manning) and tight end (Jimbo Graham). Next, at wide receiver, we are going to use our two receivers from above in Calvin Johnson and Victor Cruz. Other players like Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas are tempting here, but we will stick with our pair for reasons we discussed in the 2 Athlete section. Lastly, at running back, we are taking two backs who face each other in Week 5 in what should be a high scoring affair. Reggie Bush has been incredible this season and won’t stop this week as he faces Green Bay. While Bush is on the sidelines, our other running back choice, Eddie Lacy, will be doing damage. Remember when Lacy was injured in Weeks 2 and 3? During those weeks James Starks and Johnathan Franklin were busy racking up 100+ yard performances, a feat that Lacy will likely top as well this week. THE PICK: Peyton Manning, Reggie Bush, Eddie Lacy, Calvin Johnson, Victor Cruz, Jimmy Graham

Good luck in Week 5, and be sure to check out Headsupfantasy!

  • Jeff, would you trade Stevan Ridley for Percy Harvin?

    • It really depends on where your team is at roster and record wise really. If you dont need Ridley and can withstand not having a useful player for another month, I dont think its too crazy.
