Defenses Against Wide Receivers: Week 17
The end of my fantasy football season means a couple things for me…
1. I throw myself into the NBA season…Some teams I am loving this season; 1. Sacramento Kings: Young legs have a huge advantage in this compressed schedule and you have to love their young core; Boogie Cousins, Tyreke Evans and JIMMER! Also the Chuck Hayes signing is a sneaky good one and did anyone else notice that J.J. Hickson somehow ended up on the Kings?!…He’s a legit low-post player! How did this happen?! Love the Kings. I’m also liking the Knicks, Lob City and the Pacers…
2. American Idol: Listen, the wife makes me watch it…Well, I sort of sit with my wife, while SHE watches and I comment on the show…Listen, I hate the show but I love to complain about it. Like when every judge simply turns into a ball of mush, heaping praise on every contestant like an overzealous soccer mom…Or trying to guess which one of the female contestants Steven Tyler has had sex with, I love playing that game!
3. Jersey Shore: Listen, I get the holier than thou argument against watching reality shows like Jersey Shore…My arguement has been this…The show is enter…I’m sorry, I can’t do this anymore…It’s becoming harder and harder to defend this show. The show was once, in my estimation, the greatest reality show of all-time. The drunkenness, the constant hooking up, the Valtrex flowing like wine…Ahh, it was marvelous! Now the show has devolved into arguing with my friend Moe on why Pauly D has never hooked up on the show and whether he is gay…I’m over this show! I can’t take one more Deena crotch blurcle, not one more…I’ve had enough!
To the matchups…
Week 17 Matchup I Love
Vincent Jackson/Malcolm Floyd vs. Oakland Raider Defense
The ” Will Norv Turner save his job” speculation is in full swing, see here…Well, Norv is pretty much done but over the past several weeks, the San Diego offense has appeared somewhat like the potent offense they are supposed to be, with exception to last week…Yikes! I’m willing to bet that San Diego gives Norv a good send off and at least goes down fighting. Just a hunch…Well, in the past 2 weeks, the Raiders have given up a total of 80 fantasy points to Wide Receivers and 508 total receiving yards. Not. Good. I would put Jackson and Floyd as top-24 plays this week, get them in your lineup. Plenty of risk involved with both of these guys, I understand that but I would roll the dice on both have a big week…
| Team | Games | Fan Pts | Avg Pts | Rec | ReYds | YPR | ReTD | FumL |
| OAK | 2 | 40 | 40 | 17.5 | 254 | 14.5 | 2.5 | 0 |
Also, Percy Harvin is a bona-fide top-12 play this week. The Bears have packed this season in and are giving up an average of 27.3 fantasy points per game and 189.7 receiving yards per game, the past 3 weeks. Must start Harvin this week, always roll with talent…
| Team | Games | Avg Pts | Rec | ReYds | YPR | ReTD | FumL |
| CHI | 3 | 27.3 | 12.67 | 189.7 | 15 | 1.67 | 0 |
Week 17 Matchup I Hate
Santana Moss vs. Philadelphia Defense
Way to go Philadelphia Eagles…Way to wait until your season is 2/3 over before finally playing like the “Dream Team“…The Philadelphia defense has been damn good lately and are 28th in the NFL, the last 3 weeks, in fantasy points allowed per game to Wide Receivers. Santana Moss has also slowed down a little bit since returning from his hand injury. Moss has only 1 game of more than 46 receiving yards in his past 5 games. I wouldn’t want Moss as anything more than a flex play this week, with championships on the line…
| Team | Games | Avg Pts | Rec | ReYds | YPR | ReTD | FumL |
| PHI | 3 | 14.7 | 8.33 | 78.3 | 9.4 | 1.33 | 0.7 |
One more nugget for you guys…When in doubt, start your studs. I would much rather have Calvin Johnson for a half than Santonio Holmes for a full game. Don’t over think it…Keep a close eye on player statuses as Sunday nears.
